He might leave me because I am a Sickle Cells carrier- MUBS girl

My name is Janet a student of Makerere University Business School (MUBS). I have been dating my boyfriend for three years now. Recently, I told him I come from a background of Sickle Cells carriers. I really love him and I would want to be with him for a long time but I’m scared he will leave me now that he knows… What should I do?

Hey Janet, hang in there and don’t freak out just as yet, chances are very high that he will not leave you if he loves you just as much as you love him.

Science tells us that if you are a Sickle Cell carrier, it means you carry one of the faulty genes that causes sickle cell disease, but you don’t have the condition yourself. People who carry sickle cell won’t develop sickle cell disease, but may be at risk of having a child with the condition.

If you carry sickle cell, you’re at risk of having children with sickle cell disease, although this can only happen if your partner is also a carrier or has sickle cell disease themselves.

Take your partner for a test and get to know your chances. Good luck!
