The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Monica Musenero has advised universities to start teaching herbal medicine courses to help in the treatment of several diseases.
The minister was presiding over symposium for the Herbal medicine at Rukararwe Gardens, Nyakabirizi in Bushenyi district. Several herbalists from different parts of the country attended the symposium where they exhibited various innovations in herbal medicine.
While delivering her speech at the symposium, Dr. Musenero said that all universities across the country should include herbal medicine as a course in order to produce enough expertise. Arguably, this will increase on the number of innovations in the country and also boosting the health sector.
‘’The government has embarked on the process of documenting and manufacturing herbal medicine to become a major contributor to the global medicine industry,’’ she revealed.
The symposium was also attended by Professor Patrick Ogwang from Mbarara University of Science and Technology who invented COVIDEX, a herbal remedy for the treatment of COVID-19. He said that the future of health is going into organic medicine all over the world and people have now opted for natural solutions.
