MES is the pioneer engineering students body within Makerere University at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT).
MES was founded in 1971 at a time when most engineering disciplines were introduced in Makerere University and Uganda as a whole.
Since then, the Society has played a pivotal role in changing the lives and attitudes of several great men and women in the engineering field by equipping them with interpersonal, leadership and social skills, indispensable in the development of successful careers which has both promoted national and global development.
During the celebrations, MES launched the first Makerere Engineering Society Magazine in 50 years, other activities included the Annual Technology Conference and Dinner, the Open Day and Exhibition Day, Industrial Tours and the Technology Sports Gala.
More so, students exhibited outstanding projects like the ANNIV-self-cleaning water filter, by Angel Uwera and Ivan Otim, first year mechanical engineering students; to be used by all people who use other sources of water like rain due to limited access to national water services to curb poor water sanitation in Uganda in a more cost-effective way in this global crisis.
