Ministry of finance, planning and economic development has urged pre-medical interns to remain calm as they wait for their deployment.
Ramathan Ggoobi, the permanent secretary to the treasury at Ministry of finance said pre-medical interns should regulate the unnecessary pressure on social media and patiently wait for their deployment.
Ggoobi, in his speech at the high level policy dialogue on the budget held on June 19th, said government made a commitment to resolve the plight of pre-medical interns and that they should wait for it to fulfill.
“Please be patient. When government gives you a commitment, be patient. Don’t sound entitled,” he said.
The permanent secretary to the treasury of ministry of finance further revealed that government is trying to come up with a new sustainable modus operandi to facilitate interns.
Minister of Finance Matia Kasaija said last week at the reading of the budget for the financial year 2023/2024 that government had released approximately 22 billion to cover the arrears of medical interns and senior house officers.
The released funds, however, only cater for those that have been on internship leaving the question of those pending deployment unanswered.
Both pre-medical interns and the Uganda Medical Association have come out to demand for a clear timeline on the deployment of medical interns and the former have declared a protest on Wednesday.
The high level policy dialogue on the budget was organised by ACODE Uganda under the theme: Economic recovery and resilience for inclusive growth: opportunities, priorities and strategies.
