Through their Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine, the Ministry of Health has announced a total of 450 scholarship slots for qualifying health workers. According to Atwine, the Ministry has 25 slots for Masters in Nursing (Critical Care Nursing) and 400 slots for in-service Certificate (Intensive Care Nursing).

Several requirements have been set for intending applicants and it is only Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) that offers the stated courses in Uganda. The deadline for applying is 30th June 2020.

According to a document from the Ministry of Health, applicants should be working with a registered hospital in Uganda for a period of not less than 2 years and should be on payroll.

Among other requirements, the applicant should be a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing/Midwifery. The applicant should also be willing to sign a bonding agreement with the Ministry of Public Service and work for equivalent to the time spent on training under this scholarship scheme.

Applicants must also be willing to go back to their current districts of work or be deployed in health facilities with ICU after completion of training. The applicants are also required to submit an admission letter from a recognized training institution and in this case, it is MUST plus among other requirements stated in the document attached to this article.

The scholarship program has been announced after the government of Uganda received financing from the World Bank and the Global Financing Facility in support of Every Woman Every Child (GFF) for implementation of Uganda Reproductive Maternal and Child Health Service Improvement Project (URMCHIP).
