One of the rules that was set for the Makerere University Mitchellex freshers’ bazaar (2022 edition) was a total ban on liquor consumption.
Professor Henry Alinaitwe, in his letter to the chairman Mitchell hall James Adupa -the host of the Bazaar, had directed that liquor should be sidelined in this year’s edition.
However, Professor Alinaitwe’s message fell on deaf ears as students didn’t heed to this rule. Makerere university students welcomed the bazaar that commenced on 29th January, 2022 with bottles of liquor as they sipped and tossed to the return of Makerere’s biggest expo.
The Bee captured some of the students taking a concoction from both club and Uganda waragi stalls at the venue that excited them, thus screaming at their toppest pitch. The liqour at this year’s bazaar is priced at Ug2500 (a bottle of club) and 1500 for a glass of Uganda waragi.
Makerere university students had laughed at Professor Henry Alinaitwe’s directives earlier last week with some assuring the Bee that they will take liquor by all means or come to the event after fully spoiling themselves with enough bottles.
Among other rules set for this year’s bazaar was that the activities have to end at 5pm and strict observance of standards operating procedures (SOPs). By the time of publication, which was later than 5pm, the bazaar was still on without signs of ending soon.
Makerere university students hadn’t had a feel of the Mitchell bazaar for nearly two years since its absence in 2020 due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
This year’s bazaar will be on for a week; from 29th January to 5th February. That’s a week of endless shopping for the 2021/2022 academic year’s freshmen and women
