Following a directive from president Museveni to his wife Janet Museveni who also doubles as the Minister of Education and sports, Mountains of the Moon University has officially been made a public University (government funded).
The Fort Portal-based University took it to its various social media platforms to inform the general public that it is now a chartered public university and also went ahead to call upon new students to apply before the admission period is closed.
President Museveni also ordered the takeover of Busoga University which has not yet been confirmed. “I am writing to direct you to take over two private universities which some of our people acting in good faith, started many years ago. The two universities are Mountains of the Moon and Busoga University,” part of Museveni’s letter he wrote earlier this year reads.
Museveni’s directive came following a request from Mountains of the Moon to the government requesting for its takeover as it could no longer afford the high costs of running the institution citing its failure to pay the staff and at the same time improve the infrastructures.
