The family of Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga is mourning the loss of his daughter, Phiona Kobusingye Kabbyanga, who passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2025, at the Uganda Cancer Institute – Mulago, after a protracted illness.
The news of her passing has drawn widespread condolences from family, friends, and the community of Kasese District, where the family has deep roots. Phiona was known to many as a warm-hearted and resilient young woman, admired for her quiet strength and kind demeanor.
In an official statement released by Dr. Loice Kabyanga, the family outlined the tentative funeral arrangements as follows:
- Thursday, July 24: The body remains at Mulago Hospital mortuary.
- Friday, July 25: The body will be transported from Kampala to Hon. Kabyanga’s residence in Muyenga, Kasese Municipality, in the afternoon.
- Saturday, July 26: A body viewing and church service will be held at the family home in Muyenga, followed by the transfer to Rusese Village for an overnight vigil and a second church service.
- Sunday, July 27: Burial will take place at 2:00 PM at the family’s ancestral home in Rusese Village, Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Council, Bukonzo County West, Kasese District.
Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga, a prominent public figure and former Minister of State for National Guidance, has served the people of Kasese with distinction. The loss of his daughter is being felt not only by his family but by the broader community and political fraternity.
