A section of lawmakers in the 10th parliament are opposed to a recommendation by professor Omaswa’s task force that over qualified staff in public universities in the country be sacked.
A task force headed by Professor Francis Omaswa was set up by Makerere university to investigate the remunerations’ and discrepancies top up allowances of employees reported that some staff especially those in administrative positions were over qualified for the jobs and this breeds discontent and endless strikes at the university.
The report also said that the recommendation to layoff over qualified staff should apply to all public universities because they all grappling with similar challenges.
However law makers such as Joshua Aywarachi from Padyeri County and Agaba Abasi from Kitagwenda County say that this is unfair and will be academic disaster that has never happened anywhere.
The members of parliament say that Government should expand the structures to create better positions for those who are over qualified.
