During a press briefing, MTN Uganda has today (Monday) morning announced that mobile money fees have been slashed by more than half in a new promotion aimed at giving back to their customers. This happened at Serena Hotel, where the presser was held.

The MTN General Manager Cooperate Services, Enid Edroma noted that the new offer will run for eight weeks starting with today Monday, June 17. According to Edroma, the offer is aimed at appreciating MTN Mobile Money subscribers who have supported the giant telecom company over the past years.
“We are very pleased to announce an exciting new offer for our customers. Starting today, customers will send money at half-price. We have reduced the sending rates to appreciate our customers who have supported us through the years by using MTN MoMo,” Edroma said.

While clarifying about the new offer, Christopher Ssali, the Senior Manager Mobile Financial Services urged customers to embrace mobile money instead of sending money using bodabodas. He also advised customers to stop involving agents in sending money as he revealed that they should instead deposit it on their phones (free of charge) and send at lower rates.
“You can now send money at half price everywhere you go. People have been giving money to ‘Bodabodas’ in order to reduce the cost of sending money. But now from as low as 50shs, you will be able to send money using MTN MoMo” Ssali said.
MTN Mobile Money currently enjoys the biggest share of Mobile Money market with over 8.8 million mobile money subscribers. Since its launch, the service has seen over 30 trillion shillings in transactions.
