With fourth-generation (4G) technology still a long way off from full or even significant adoption in Uganda and the region, market leaders, MTN Uganda are looking to take things to another level and score yet another first.
MTN Uganda showcased the first live demo of 5G network in Uganda which was presided over by Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, the Executive Director, Uganda Communications Commission, Mr. Godfrey Mutabazi and invited executives from across the business divide of Uganda.
MTN Uganda becomes the first brand to conduct a 5G trial in the East African region after application trials in South Africa which saw the telecom achieve an output of over 20Gbps with less than five minutes latency in the 5G trial.
“We are pleased to be the first telecommunication company to introduce this groundbreaking technology in the East African region. 5G Technology will benefit the country in terms of improved quality of communication between massive numbers of devices, improved speeds, efficiency of service and security in addition to the increase of capacity for digital applications and innovations which will benefit both businesses and consumers alike.” said Wim Vanhelleputte, the MTN CEO.
