In a letter dated 5th July, 2019 the office of the Makerere University Business School Academic Staff Association (MUBASA), sent a letter to the Principal of MUBS informing him that all academic staff will withdraw their labor services.
In the letter, Mr Yoram Banyenzaki, the General Secretary of the association, explains that the action has been taken due to failure of their employer to pay all the academic staff as per the approved Public Service pay structure of 2018.
Pursuant to the May 28th, 2019 resolution of MUBASA general assembly to withdraw labor and in accordance with section 34(2) of that Labor Disputes (Arbitration and settlement) Act, 2006, take notice that stuff will withdraw their labor effective July 31,2019, Banyenzaki said in the letter. He went ahead to emphasize that semester one of academic year 2019/2020 will not open and that the staff, through their leadership, remain committed to any efforts aimed at solving the above challenge.
Copies of the letter were sent to: Minister of Education and sports, Minister of Public Service, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education and Sports, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Public Service, Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Treasury Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development, Chairman MUBS council, Deputy Principal, School Secretary, Director Human Resources, All Academic staff and the Guild President.
