The chairman, Makerere University Business Academic Staff Association published a notice on 24th may 2018 where workers are on a call-to-strike action after staff members complained of underpayment, non payment of teaching assistants, delayed payment of allowances and the intended abolition of top up allowances. MUBASA is to ballot for industrial action over underpayment of staff unless it gets a satisfactory response within the shortest possible time.
In a statement, the chairman MUBASA Dr. Isaac Wanzige Magoola said that the strike will mean marking will not continue, field attachment will not be supervised and semester one for Academic year 2018/2019 will not open. He went on and wrote that a strike task force to identity and shame members reporting to work is in place.
MUBASA members emphasized that it is fairly obvious that various categories are massively undervalued and underpaid forgetting the enormous responsibility that they carry and that they are skilled professional educators.
