MUBS Alumnus and ambitious politician Luyombya Godfrey has dragged his former lecturer and Nakawa LC3 seat opponent Kawere Richard to court demanding that the latter be investigated “for violating the law”.

The relations between the two acquaintances soured after Mr. Kawere, a senior MUBS lecturer trounced his former student for the LC3 Councillor’s position.

After succumbing to defeat by 16 votes, Luyombya has now petitioned the Electoral Commission seeking to have Kawere’s victory nullified on grounds that the latter was wrongfully nominated.
Represented by lawyers from Lukwago and Co. Advocates, petition is premised on grounds that Kawere failed to resign his teaching job at MUBS within the statutory 30 days before nomination day, contrary to Uganda’s electoral laws.

Sec. 116 of the Local Government Act states that “a person employed in any government department or agency of the government, an employee of the local government or an employee of a body in which government has a controlling interest who wishes to stand for elections to a local government office shall resign his or her office at least 30 days before nomination day in accordance with the procedure of the service or employment to which he/she belongs.”
Accordingly, Court has ordered Kawere to file his defence within 10 days after being served with the relevant Court papers.
