After dominating the ladies’ section in the first Association of Uganda University Sports Mind Sports Chess Championship that was held at Makerere University from 2nd to 3rd July 2022, the Makerere University Business School (MUBS) chess captain, Ahereza Joan emerged as a winner.
Beating opponents like Nansubuga Gloria of Victoria University and Nabacwa Allen Kyolaba of Makerere University, Joan became untouchable.
Joan will now raise the Ugandan flag high in the forthcoming FISU (Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire) World University Mind Sports Championship that will be held in Antwerp, Belgium in September 2022 representing Uganda and MUBS.
Ahereza joins the list of Ugandan chess champions that have made it to the international level with Phiona Mutesi leading the list.
Ahereza won the Association of Uganda University Sports Mind Sports Chess Championship with a gold medal after an outstanding performance of 5.5 out of 8.
Nansubuga Gloria came second with a silver medal with 5 out of 8 while Nabacwa scored 4 out of 8, winning Bronze.
