Few days after his announcement as Makerere University Business School (MUBS) principal, Prof Wasswa Balunywa has been pushed on the side as the University’s governing body announces Prof Moses Muhwezi as the acting principal for the Nakawa based University.
The MUBS governing council announced Monday morning that that Muhwezi will be the acting principal while Prof Balunywa’s fate is still unknown. Balunywa has served at MUBS for 15 years, whose latest contract expired today Monday 28th May 2018.
Prof Venansius Baryamureeba, one of the top dons at MUBS revealed earlier this week that Balunywa was not fit to continue leading MUBS explaining that he had already clocked 60 years. In his response, Prof Balunywa fired back by saying that Baryamureeba was trying to push his ambitions as MUBS new principal.
In a meeting aimed at deciding Balunywa’s fate, the council members were forced to divide into groups to find out who prefer Balunywa to continue as the principal and those who want him to step aside. More information reaching us indicate that Prof Baryamureeba was asked to excuse himself from the meeting.
As Balunywa’s appointment is still surrounded by controversy, Prof Muhwezi has revealed that he can handle the job very well as the matter is resolved, “I have been doing most of the administrative work with Prof. Balunywa, therefore this appointment is not any challenge to me” Muhwezi noted.
Beatrice Anywar, one of the council members revealed that the council is waiting for advice from the Education Service Commission regarding this matter. She adds that Prof Muhwezi will handle this new task very well, “Prof. Moses Muhwezi is very senior, he has been working together with Balunywa. We are sure that he will well run the institution as we wait to hear from the education service commission.
