The leadership of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) was on Monday tasked to explain why a large chunk of academic transcripts were not printed and issued as initially budgeted for during the 2021/2022 financial year.
This happened as the legislators on the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Central grilled MUBS senior administration to explain why only 384 transcripts were printed as opposed to the 5000 transcripts that were planned as raised in Auditor General report for financial year 2021/2022.
The MPs were particularly concerned, reasoning that this obstructs the career growth of graduates.
This was raised by the Bukuya County MP Mr. Michael Bukenya who dismissed a submission by the Acting Principal of MUBS Mr Moses Muhwezi who had told the committee that the failure to print the transcripts was due to budgets at the entity.
“I’m wondering what those students did without their transcripts. But he (Muhwezi) should show it to me in the unfunded priorities which he first accounted for in the 12 billion shillings because printing a transcript may not be very expensive,” Bukenya said.
In defense, Muhwezi blamed the matter on procurement shortfalls.
“The issue was the procurement system that had delayed the procurement of transcripts but since then, they now have their transcripts,” Muhwezi told MPs.
