News reaching the Hive indicates that the Electoral Commission (EC) of Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Nakawa main campus has suspended all movements around the campus by guild presidential aspirants.
In reference to the letter dated 16th March, Hon Ryan Kabeera Hashim the EC chairperson has suspended all movements by the aspirants around lecturer rooms and on campus with groups in a bid to solicit for votes from the students’ body.
According to MUBS guild constitution, chapter 6 article 75(2), the EC is responsible for supervising all guild elections.
“The electoral rules and regulations as amended 2006 section C article (4) stipulates that the EC will from time to time inform in writing and publish guidelines to steer the electoral process. In addition to section D article (7) clearly outlines that no candidate(s) representative(s) are allowed to issue appointment letters or campaigning materials before nomination and approval of a candidate by the EC’’. The public notice reads.
Samuel Ssendi, the MUBS EC PRO informed the students/candidates suspension will take effect from tomorrow up to when the nomination process is done. He added by requesting them to follow the EC rules and regulations in order to have a free and fair election.
