Shock, Agony, Grief and sorrow engulfed the students fraternity at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) after what was meant to be a “weekend get together” claimed the life of one of their fellows with several others who went missing.
It was about 23:00 hours when news of Julie Nambatya, a third year student of Bachelors of Business Administration (majoring in finance) surfaced on the internet on how she had passed on enroute to the hospital following a boat cruise accident on Sunday evening.
“They left Campus on Friday evening and they must have had an awesome Saturday because they kept sharing lovely selfies but on Sunday, the boat on which they were sailing capsized and Julie’s life jacket went off and she drowned. She was rescued by the life saver but died on the way to hospital,” – a classmate told this reporter.
Four other students were still missing by the time of compiling this story but several reports indicate that they are safe though terrified by the incident.
The Guild Representative Councillor (GRC) if the BBA third year class, Male Moses Syza together with a team of colleagues did a commendable job as these were on the first taxi to Jinja upon getting the news at around 23:00 hours. Their efforts were helpful in consoling the rest of the girls who were seeking solace at Jinja police station by the time of compiling this report.
Friends took to social media to mourn the deceased, talking about her as one whose company will greatly be missed.
A young girl with dreams so huge passing on at such a tender age is terrifying. It comes at time when she had less than 2 months in school. Our sincere condolences go out to the classmates, friends and family. Rest in peace, Julie!
