In a shocking twist of events, Makerere University Business School Guild President Mr Joram Matovu is apparently wanted by Police to answer to charges of theft. Campus Bee has reliably learnt that the chubby guild president is allegedly accused for ‘playing dirty’ and making off with a laptop of a fellow student and course mate of the Nakawa based university.
Ogeny Santo Abwol a third year day student doing Bachelor’s of Human Resource Management has filed a case against the Matovu Jorum accusing him of stealing his laptop. The fellow who is a course mate to the Guild President alleges that a few months back Matovu Jorum and a friend came to his hostel and borrowed his laptop and he recounts that it was the last time he ever saw it.
In an early morning phone call, Ogeny told this website the genesis of the saga and how it ended up in the hands of police;
One day Matovu Joram came to my hostel with a friend and they borrowed my laptop claiming that they had some important coursework and presentation to do and since Jojo was a good Friend, i didn’t hesitate to give it to him. After the agreed period had reached, I didn’t get any feedback at all. I asked him why he hadn’t yet returned my laptop, he lied told me that the fella that had was at Makerere but everything just didn’t seem right. Days, weeks and months flew by and Jojo didn’t seem to care about my laptop and i was losing patience.
When i told him I’m taking the matter to police, he told me to talk to MUBS Guild Prime Minister Ahereza Eria who also seemed to be covering up for him. They kept on confusing me and when i expressed my fury and disappointment, He(Eria) told me the whole truth.
Apparently Jojo had given in my laptop as collateral security to money lenders and he had since failed to pay back the money. I also learnt that he had wasted the money on girls which even angered me more. When i reached out to him, unknowingly to him that i already knew the truth, he was still inclined to lying to me that the laptop is on it’s way but i told him i already knew it all.
It’s then that i gave him an ultimatum of two days to produce my laptop which he failed to do. I sought for the intervention of police and a letter summoning him was issued. Worst still he refused to show up to settle the matter in a diplomatic case. I have now secured an arrest warrant and i have a number of witnesses who have recorded statement at Jinja Road Police station.
“I’m waiting for him to return to campus as he has been away on Guild duties upcountry and then he will be arrested by police”, the angered fellow affirmed.
When contacted and asked about the said allegations, Mr Joram Matovu said he had no idea about the allegations and was shocked he was learning about it from the media. “That name doesn’t ring a bell. If it was true the OC of MUBS would have told me by now and i know nothing at all,” a shocked Jojo responded.
