Makerere University Business School today held a peaceful protest over a number of grievances that have been from time to time being ignored by the administration. The students and their leaders confronted the university’s Principal Prof. Wasswa Balunywa to express themselves.
A number of students were brought forward to express themselves to the principal and they expressed the following complaints.
1. The missing marks from the previous semester that have accumulated unnecessary retakes along with the old computer system that keeps crashing.
2. The high tuition fees that seem to not make sense to the students given that they have attended few physical lectures and repeated payments of the functional fees.
3. Online lessons.
4. Harsh administrators that ignore student complaints.
“NO MARKS NO EXAMS”, “we want out marks”, “weeweee” were the words that the university students shouted on as they moved about on the campus premises.
The students were also angry at the old regime of Mr Ogwang Robinson as they lashed out on him when he was trying to cool down the student. They called his regime a joke and accused him of incompetence. “Tolina kyontugamba” literally meaning “there’s nothing you can tell us,” – the students shouted at him.
The principal asked and begged the students to accept his apologies on behalf of all his administrations flaws. He promised to solve the pressing issues first but the student claimed his only saying that to cool them down but at the end of the day he wouldn’t at on his promises.
The strike has however been trolled for being shorter than anticipated after the students came to terms with the administrators.
