Makerere University Business School (MUBS) community is saddened by the loss of Associate Professor Joseph Kasumba Ssewanyana who passed away yesterday (25th March 2020) at Nakasero hospital.
Prof. Kasumba has been an academic giant and a senior lecturer at the Nakawa based institution for the last 20 years. He has been a senior consultant in the department of computer science and engineering where he is remembered for his contribution towards the establishment of that department in the year 2003.
According to Professor Musa Moya the Dean faculty of computing and informatics, Prof. Kasumba taught, examined, supervised and mentored even up to last week, he was supervising his students.
“He has mentored many staff since he joined MUBS. Friendly to all staff and students. We have truly missed a great friend. Condolences to his Dr. Sarah Ssewanyana’’ Prof. Moya described the late.
The late Prof. Kasumba served as the first University Council chairperson of Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) between 2013-2015. He was also a business technology specialist who worked extensively in the academia and industry.
He also served as a consultant with IFE and a member of several boards such as CEO of Summit Think Tank secretariat and on the council of Management Training and Advisory Center (MTAC).
He has been laid to rest today at his ancestral home in Mubende district. May the Almighty God strengthen his family and friends in this trying moment and may his soul rest in eternal peace.
