Ramathan Goobi, a Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Economics lecturer has today Wednesday, 18 August 2021 officially started his duties as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Finance.
The freshly sworn in Permanent Secretary has pledged to ensure that the economy recovers from the hard-hitting Covid-19 pandemic.
Today, Goobi officially received the office from Patrick Ocailap, his Deputy at a function witnessed by Finance Minister Matia Kasaija and other top officials from the ministry.
“I am taking on this gigantic responsibility with full knowledge that like many other young nations, Uganda’s main challenge today is to build a sound economy and transform our society that is still largely pre-industrialist into a modern nation,” Goobi said before adding that “Thankfully, I am going to work with a team that is professionally apt, largely young, dynamic, intelligent, hardworking, enthusiastic and efficient,”
The fired up Goobi further revealed that he has responsibility of leading the technical team that is going to direct the economic policy of Uganda by first recovering the economy to its pre-pandemic state and then to socio-economic transformation.
In July, Ggoobi was appointed by President Museveni as the new Permanent Secretary for the Finance Ministry and Secretary to the Treasury, replacing Keith Muhakanizi who is now serving in the Office of Prime Minister.
