Makerere University School of Business (MUBS) is set to postpone last semester’s exams for the second time to allow participants in the rescheduled elections have fair preparation time.
MUBS Principal Prof. Waswa Balunywa made the revelation through an email to the School’s academic staff describing the intention of the second postponement.
“It is unfortunate that we have to postpone exams as a result of the development in the student Guild elections. On December 22, 2021, the Presidential elections were held but were canceled as a result of challenges as elections were held. These were postponed to Wednesday January 12, 2022,” he explained.
“The electoral commission is a group of students mostly third year students who are responsible for handling elections. After handling the presidential election, they have another week to complete all the other elections,” he added.
Prof. Waswa Balunywa also revealed intentions to meet with student representatives and agree on a favorable date that will be communicated before end of this week..
“We are meeting the guild to agree on the date for commencement of examinations. I am proposing to them January 27, 2022 as the start date. This is unfortunate that this has to happen however we must take time to not only have free and fair elections but also to ensure that all other university processes are handled with integrity,” Prof. Waswa noted.
It is important to note that the MUBS Electoral Commission released a new roadmap with details regarding the Guild elections with voting for the top seat set for Wednesday January 12, 2022. Below are details to the entire process;
