Professor Wasswa Balunywa, principal Makerere University Business School (MUBS) emerged the overall winner at the National Citizens Integrity Awards 2023.
Balunywa also scoped the management obligation award at the integrity awards ceremony held Tuesday at Hotel African.
Balunywa was hailed for revolutionising business education and piloting the private Students’ scheme.
Hon. Andrew Bararyanga Aja was recognised as the overall first runner up and winner in the political obligation category.
Dr Morris Ocwedda was the winner in the frontline category with Akello Edith and Ochen James as first runner and second runner up respectively.
Xavier Ejoyi, ActionAid Uganda Country Director thanked the public for nominating men and women of integrity, disclosing that they received more than 600 nominations.
“We want to take this opportunity to thank the members of the public who nominated men and women of integrity from all over the country. We received more than 600 nominations,” he said.
Xavier said the awards not only recognise men and women of integrity but also name and shame the corrupt.
“We do not only recognize men and women of integrity, we also name and shame the corrupt.To the winners, you have been recognized by citizens. That it is why we call it the national citizens integrity awards,” he added.
Dr Onzivuwa, Pathologist and member of the voting committee said integrity is the same or equal to godly values and that the award of integrity before God should be every man’s desire.
The National Citizens Integrity Awards is an annual event that aims at recognising public servants who serve with honesty and integrity. The awards were started in 2018.
