Under the theme “Leadership for Transformation in a Dynamic Environment”, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) on Wednesday kicked off the 26th Annual Seminar at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Entebbe and Online.
The three-day seminar (Wednesday 8th – Friday 10th December) was graced by several CPAs both living in Uganda and abroad with strict adherence to COVID-19 SOPs.
The seminar was opened by the ICPAU CEO, CPA Derick Nkajja who highlighted on the need for accountants to adopt to the planning systems.
“CPAs have been challenged by the pandemic and everyone of the accounting sector but regardless as an institute, we need to adopt to the planning systems.” Nkajja said.
Also present at the seminar was Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Principal Prof Waswa Balunywa who also doubled as the keynote speaker for day 1 of the seminar. While speaking remotely on zoom, Balunywa urged Ugandans to embrace technology in a bid to achieve both economic and social transformation.

Balunywa further revealed that there is need for Uganda to draft a plan on transforming the society through poverty eradication. According to Balunywa, Leaders need to have a greater calling to transform society.
“Leaders have a role. We can’t live in a sick society, the population will not prosper. And our main problem as a country is poverty. We should focus on making a plan to transform the society and give them the power to be part of the process.” Balunywa revealed on Wednesday.
Day 1 of the seminar was also graced by Mrs. Emma Mugisha, Executive Director, Stanbic Bank Uganda who tipped fellow women to boost their confidence by setting out manageable schedules and targets.
The seminar will be concluded on Friday, 10th December with ICPAU Accountancy Services Awards 2021 (ASA).
