MUBS’ popular Hub and “hangout’ spot for most campus students has had most of it’s parts demolished and destroyed in a bid to get rid of illegal structures a directive by the KCCA. Popularly known as small gate, an area code known to attract students from all walks of life because of the many pocket-friendly services offered, the area is set for a face lift and fear is that this may infringe on the cheap prices that have been prevailing.
Residents, business owners and vendors hailing from the small gate area are for the past one week crying foul play after their business were rambled to the ground by the local council operatives.
“We were not ready to have our structures demolished and we really have no starting point at this time, a local vendor cried out.”
The exercise that started last week has so far seen over 100 illegal stalls demolished and left small business owners stranded after KCCA issued a directive to have the place uplifted to a city status.
As students organize to kick-start yet another semester, they are in for a shock as traders vow to hike prices because the standard increases day by day. “We fear for the prices of commodities and also some of us that are residents in this, we could see our hostel fee increase with these stringent rules,” said a one Agiro Faith a Second year MUBS student residing at Small gate during recess.
On a lighter and great view, amazing structures are being replaced with the old one and this could crown the small ghetto with a perfect view of a suburb.
