Desire Namazzi, a Makerere University Business School (MUBS) student who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is now cancer-free after undergoing a successful bone marrow transplant in India.
The 21-year-old MUBS student last year reached out to the general public for financial support through a campaign dubbed #TogetherForDesire.
Following the successful transplant, Namazzi took to her Twitter account to thank Ugandans for saving her life.
“Thank you for saving my life.” Namazzi tweeted.
The good news was followed by a small gathering organized by her close associates who were anxiously waiting for her return from India.
“Hello, I bring good news this morning. At the start of this week Desire underwent her bone marrow transplant in India which was successful.Thank you so much for the donations so far. Kindly continue sharing and donating to our fundraiser so that we get 100%,” A tweet shared by @_Byarugaba_ reads.
Namazzi, who was undergoing chemotherapeutic treatment since April 2021 did not respond to the treatment as anticipated by doctors, something that forced them to advise her to undergo a bone marrow transplant in India. The transplant was expected to cost between $50000 – $70000, according to her fundraiser page.
