There is a growing habit of snatching phones from people moving at night while chatting. These phone snatchers have reached to an extent of stoning and hitting students with bricks in order for them to grab the phones.
Silver, a 3rd year Human Resource Management student at Nakawa based Makerere University Business School and resident of Biko Hostel was attacked by goons on Monday night near City Royale hotel Bugolobi before leaving him with head injuries.
“That area has always been a dangerous spot and it was named ‘Akattiro’. It is always dark and thugs hide there but authorities have not taken any action to put lights. Silver was lucky that he only sustained injuries and did not lose his belongings but it could have been worse.” a student at MUBS said of the incident.
It is believed the assailants targeted his phone but failed to get it despite leaving him nursing wounds. Silver had been discharged from hospital by press time.
We hope the concerned personnel awaken before this situation goes out of hand.
