Yesterday was a dark day in the history of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in Nakawa after one of their colleagues as earlier reported, passed on during prayers in the Mosque at around 4pm.
Nothing had prepared them for what was coming next when later that night, another student was knocked dead by a speeding trailer.
Shafra Akatusasira was hitherto, a second year student of Procurement at the university and was reportedly coming from class when she met her demise.
Accordingly, despite the many humps situated along that route, drivers still drive carelessly and don’t mind crossing students.
According to an eye witness that preferred anonymity, the late Akatusasira was knocked down and it took over an hour to respond to calls of rescue.
“We called the Police to come and rescue her lifeless body from the dust and uncalled for media attention but they were taking ages,” he said.
Makerere University has in this year alone lost close to or over 20 students in different circumstances and according to some students at MUBS after what happened yesterday especially, they’d prefer they gazette a prayer day for their institution and also pray for the souls of their deceased colleagues.
The whereabouts of the trailer driver are still unknown to us by press time but investigations as to the accident are still ongoing and we will keep you abreast if any developments emerge.
May the deceased rest in eternal peace.
