On Friday, Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) took the “Red Card to Drunk Driving” Campaign to Makerere University Business School (MUBS). The students were taken through the basics of alcohol in an afternoon lecture.
At around 5pm, the Red Card ambassador Irene Ntale accompanied by two glamourous queen dancers stepped onto the stage performing her popular songs Nkubukinze, Olindaba and the campaign song ‘Think of Me’ to a joyous student and non-teaching staff crowd. Students fled from lecture rooms and non-teaching stuff from work duties to catch a glimpse of Gyobera star.
During the session, students were taught about how alcohol affects their body in relation to gender, what role food and water play to minimize the rate at which alcohol is absorbed in the body and tips to avoid misuse of alcohol. Rhona Arinaitwe the Corporate Relations Executive of UBL in a keynote lecture to the students said; “We are here today to empower yo with the knowledge to make conscious decisions when you are out having fun. As a brewery, our interest is not in seeing our products bring harm to our consumers but for our products to be part of the celebratory moments in your lives.”
The campaign targets reducing road accidents resulting from the bad habit of drunk driving which in most cases lead to loss of life, permanent body and mental disability, imprisonment and at worst, dropping out of school.
