Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has taken disciplinary action against 85 students found guilty of examination malpractices during semester one of the 2024/2025 academic year.
The Academic Board, following meetings held on January 31st and February 13th, 2025, announced a range of penalties based on the severity of violations, including suspensions, examination cancellations, and formal cautions.
According to the official notice issued by Dr. Eldred M. Kyamuhangi-Manyindo, School Registrar and Secretary to the Academic Board, the most common violation involved students communicating during examinations, with 27 cases reported.
“The purpose of this letter is to remind our student community that MUBS maintains zero tolerance for examination misconduct,” stated Dr. Kyamuhangi-Manyindo.
“Any student found guilty of contravening examination rules will be penalized as per the Makerere University examination rules and regulations.”
Among the violations documented were 15 students found with unauthorized materials, 12 students violating examination permits, and 10 students sitting exams for wrong programs or courses.
Other infractions included writing false information on examination booklets, exceeding credit unit limits, and failing to register on attendance lists.
Penalties ranged from cautioning to semester-long suspensions, with the most severe cases resulting in two-semester suspensions and examination cancellations.
Several students faced expulsion from alleged malpractices, while others received recommendations for cancellation of their admission.
