Time check is 10:30pm and at that awkward hour is when you hear distinct Slaps, kicks, ‘engolos’, loud canes and chants of a thief being caught in the neighborhood. Last night MUBS students based in the ghettos unleashed their purge on a one unlucky chap who was apparently found trying to break into one of the hostels at the late hour.
However, his luck ran out when a student who had gone to ease himself made a loud alarm that alerted the other students who roughed up the suspected thief and without a sign started beating him up. Eyewitnesses told Campusbee that he was caught trying to breaking into a hostel room but disguised himself as a chap who had lost his way and wanted to ease himself.
He told the already angered students that he was a soldier who was only from his night out and was being beaten for nothing. He also asked the students to take him to police and he authenticates that he is indeed not a thief which fell on deaf ears.
‘I am a solider called Akampa Derrick, here is my ATM and dog tag” chanted the roughed up suspect who only attracting himself more canes and slaps.
The army ATM card that the suspect paraded.
The students who fielded all the ‘necessary weaponry’ beat up the soldier to pulp as he tried to salvage for empathy by running away which only made him earn canes the more. After several negotiations and several thumps, he was then taken to the nearby police booth where he was saved from the wrath of the students.
While at the police, he confirmed being a solider and said he only had come to Kololo for a day with his battalion and were heading to Namugongo to provide security for the pope’s visit. Asked what he was doing in the spot at the late hour, Akampa Derick said he was only easing himself.
He was then taken to Jinja Road police station where he recorded statement and police to luck up in the matter.
