Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has briefed the institution’s final year students a few weeks to completion of their studies.
The students were briefed at an organized session dubbed, ‘The last lecture ‘ at the University’s main campus yesterday (Wednesday, August 31,2022).
This last lecture for finalists was headed by Prof. Waswa Balunywa who briefed students on what to expect and what to do to fit in the outside world.
He encouraged students to respect their bosses and understand the working environment.
“Never cross your boss, understand the organizational politics for instance, the power centers, build firewalls by identifying the informal leaders in the organization, be emotionally intelligent, have the ability to communicate and be enthusiastic,” Prof. Balunywa advised.
Prof. Balunywa further told students to do whatever job that comes their way.
“There’s no job that has been made for you. When you leave school, you either create your own job or get employed. When you get employed, you have to forego your personal freedom to comply with the demands of the job.”
“Be humble, accept realities of the day, enable others to succeed, cherish criticism so that you can improve on what you do, then you will succeed.”
In the same vein, he revealed to students the challenges awaiting them in the field.
“As young people, you will be faced with challenges such as wrong mindset, high expectations, unemployment, greed for money, peer pressure, drugs, love relationships and family. You should be prepared to overcome them,” he added.
The Guild President, H.E Kiyega Rogers also sent his farewell to fellow students.
“Our parents sent us to university so that we can go back and transform our communities. We need to ask ourselves what are we taking back. We shouldn’t go back to the community and look like those who never got the opportunity of going to University.”
MUBS Students will be doing their end of Semester II Examinations for 2021/2022 academic year starting on September 05 to September 25, 2022.
