Two days from now, campaigns for all elective positions in Makerere University are expected to officially kick off with Sentongo Ivan and George William Mukula among the favorite candidates for the Guild Presidency.
Nevertheless, posters and fliers are already pasted everywhere in MUK canvassing for votes for certain candidates although it’s illegal to campaign before the campaigns have been officially flagged off.
The Makerere University Electoral Commission chaired by the newly voted Ssembogga Roy, a former Nkrumah Hall Chairman, is expected to announce the official start of electoral campaigns at MUK on Monday 24th Feb 2015.
The out-going Guild President Bwowe Ivan who handed over the instruments of power this week expressed gratitude towards the students for having given him a chance to lead them and the institution at large through a particularly chaotic period that was punctuated by strikes and theats to strike by students and lecturers alike.
