The Chairperson Makerere university convocation – an association of former Makerere university students Dr. Tanga Odoi has warned Makerere University management against embezzling funds promised by president towards the construction of a perimeter hall around the university.
Dr. Tanga Odoi addes that internal wrangles and financial mismanagement if not fought are likely to delay the construction.
The president while at the university last Saturday promised a five billion shillings contribution towards the construction of the perimeter wall which is aimed at improving the security in and around the university.
Odoi says as former students they have also embarked on the fundraising drive to support the university’s developmental projects by rising over 6 billion shillings.
Also the university alumni are looking at the Mulago cancer institute as one of the projects to support through their fundraising drive.
The publicity secretary Makerere University convocation Deus Kamunyu Muhwezi, says the construction of a perimeter hall at university, their next focus will be not changing the image of the cancer institute.
Muhwezi says they are planning to refurbish the institute through re-equipping it and motivating some of the alumni to go and work at the institute.
