The Guild Representative Council Meeting held to debate the proposed constitutional amendments as prepared by the “WASP Commission” has given its blessing without much ado, Campusbee understands. One of such amendments which requires prospective guild presidential candidates to have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 and “with absolutely no retake” since the student joined campus also sailed through despite students’ concerns about the manner in which the entire process has been conducted.
The amendment has been the subject of a heated discussion among students with many supporting it while others dismissed it as unjustifiable. Our source tells us how one member noted with concern the lack of the required quorum before passing the amendments but other sources insist that this is not true. Nevertheless, some of the GRCs who attended the meeting say the amendments were discussed in a rush and some GRCs had not even seen them until the day they were passed.
Wankandya Simon Peter, the Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister who chaired the commission defended the amendment and affirmed that it was reached after thorough consultation of the students. “The 3.0 CGPA is meant to cover for any fluctuations that may be caused to the guild president’s grades due to a heavy workload,” he added.
