Makerere university ‘s Democratic Party (DP) faction alias Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), one of the oldest parties at Uganda’s premier university unveiled its flag bearer in the forthcoming guild race on Thursday 4th November in an animated procession.
Byayesu Agrippa a student at the school of education and resident of Mitchell hall was unwrapped as the DP flag bearer in the 87th guild race in a chest-bumping procession.
The ‘sound of a trumpet’ chanted procession was disrupted by police that silenced the trumpet blowers with teargas and arrested the party flag bearer Byayesu only to be released on bail in the night.
Having arrested their home boy, Mitchell’s RGB resorted to drinking local brew (malwa) and waragi as they called upon ancestors to have their candidate released out of police custody.
Makerere university will head to the polls next week on 12th November to elect the next guild president that will head the 87th guild house. Like last year, this years election is expected to be blended too with first years and finalists voting physically as the rest vote online.
