A source at the Wandegeya Police Station has intimated to Campus Bee that the Chairman of Nkrumah Hall, Makerere University who is currently behind bars at the station is only held there for “safe custody,” citing threats to his life but he is not under arrest.
This stems from the incident that happened at the hall on Sunday night when students “mistakenly” lynched 24-year-old David Ojok on suspicion that he was a thief.
New information that Campusbee has accessed shows that the victim graduated from the same University in 2011 with a degree in ICT. He was attached to the same hall he met his death from. A source revealed that the deceased was personally known to officers at the police station as he used to repair their computers.
The source maintained that the deceased was a very calm person who could not have started the fracas that ended his life as it is being said that he is the one who prompted his own murder by trying to fight off the mob.
His father, who is the Regional Operations Officer in Gulu District personally picked his body from the KCCA mortuary and it is not true as has been alleged that body organs had been stolen from the body by the time it was claimed by the late’s family. The body had been cut and stitched for purposes of carrying out a postmortem on it.
There has been an outpouring of emotions concerning what happened, with many of his friends taking to Social Media to mourn him. “The windows 8 O.S you installed for me is still working. Rest in Peace my dear friend,” – posted one of his friends, referring to the computer solutions that the departed colleague provided.
Them Guild President of Makerere University, Bala David Bwiruka expressed strong reservations about the incident and said that the Guild office stands in solidarity with the deceased and hopes that the culprits will be brought to the book.
Mr. Akankwasa, the Resident Tutor at Nkrumah Hall had no kind words for whoever took part in this crime: “We strongly condemn this act and we hope that the law will take its full force”. He added that the Hall administration has been in a meeting with student leaders to see the way forward.
