Opoya Mike, a failed guild aspirant and chairman NRM MUK chapter, is currently detained at Kololo police post for allegedly swindling shs20m he was given for students’ facilitation by Hon. Evelyn Anite and Peter Ogwang at Sports View, Kireka. The money was meant to be facilitation of over 700 MUK students who showed up at Kololo Independence grounds for President Museveni’s post nomination rally.
Opoya got himself into trouble and survived lynching from the drenched (because of the heavy rain) and angry MUK students. The students allege Opoya of swindling their money and left them stranded at Kololo, they claimed each of them had to bag at least 20,000 shillings like their Kyambogo counterparts but Opoya and hiss friends decided to sort only a few leaving many not cleared. Opoya however insists he only received 800,000 shillings from the ministers and amidst challenges still managed to ferry over 700 MUK students to and from Kololo and has to be thanked not crucified.
The PRO MUK Chapter, Ian Oswald says that Hon Evelyn Anite and Hon Peter Ogwang were clear on Monday in a meeting with University chapter leaders at Sports View Kireka that there was no facilitation for any students.
“While at Kololo, Mr. Sam Ninsiima, Sharifah Birungi, Kyasiimire Ronald after the presidential rally continued inciting students to protest claiming Opoya has their facilitation that turned sour and as a result, police had to whisk him [Opoya] away.”
We’re yet to get an official communication from the two ministers about how much money was issued to Opoya.
