The latest coming in indicates that students from Muni University in Arua have gone on a sit down strike following the university’s failure to release their living out allowances. More details indicate that the students, who have refused to step in the university premises have further vowed not to attend lectures until the said money is released.
The students also accuse the university administration of failing to issue an academic calendar, living them in darkness of not knowing when the semester will end and when the next one will kick off.
A student from the Arua-based university who preferred to remain anonymous also told this website that third year students who are already doing internship have not received their internship allowances yet they are entitled to it.
“There’s no clear information from the academic registrar’s office on the day we were starting a new semester and when it will end. Secondly, 3rd year nursing students, 3rd year Information systems students and information technology students are doing internship plus recess terms for 2nd year guys which has been included in the normal semester yet it wasn’t but they don’t want to pay for internship allowances which students are entitled to. Thirdly, our dean of students didn’t know that we reported way back in January,” the student told Campus Bee
Campus Bee understands that Muni is the only state-owned university in West Nile which was established after intensive lobbying by politicians, religious leaders, as well as cultural leaders.
The students have vowed to hit the streets of Arua City tommorrow if their complaints are not addressed to strike for what they believe they are entitled to.
