Muni University Council yesterday inaugurated into office the newly appointed chancellor, Eng. Dr Erick Adriko Tiyo Sekebuga who will serve the Arua based main campus for an unspecified period of time.
During an event meant to mark the International Library day, Dr Adriko unveiled to the staff and management the great plans he has for university that can enable it be the first in Uganda and Africa in terms of academic excellence and research.
He started by asking the management to work hard to ensure the university achieves the dream.
“In my term of service to this great institution, I want us to work together especially in doing research. We should develop new knowledge and be able to impart positive changes into the minds of the students,” Dr Adriko said.
Adriko also urged the staff to embrace team work. He said that the academic staff constitutes the backbone of training and learning, and therefore they should do research and develop new knowledge and technology like inventing a program and device that can retrieve vital information from the memory of an old man to be conserved.
While being briefed on the status of the university by the Vice Chancellor Professor Christine Dranzoa, Dr Adriko also vowed to embark on all possible ways of making Muni the center for truthfulness and trust so as to transform lives of not only students but the community at large.
Prof Dranzoa congratulated him upon his appointment. She promised to work hand in hand with him to transform Muni.
“We wish to express our gratitude at your appointment, please feel at Muni and as we together work harder to make Muni University greater”, Prof Dranzoa said.
Muni is a Public university established by the Uganda Government by Statutory Instrument, 2013 No. 31 in accordance with the Universities & Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2006 as amended. It is Located in the West Nile district of Arua.
