President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has concluded his campaign trail in the Teso Sub-region with a grand rally at Emokori A Cell, Emokori Ward, Bukedea Town Council, where he thanked residents for their unwavering support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and reaffirmed his call for peace, development, and household wealth creation.
Addressing a sea of supporters, Museveni hailed the people of Bukedea for their steadfast backing of Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, describing her re-election as “a clear demonstration of the people’s confidence in tested leadership.”
“I want to thank you, the people of Bukedea, for supporting Anita Among and showing how shallow and bogus NUP is,” Museveni said. “The lady who was put to contest against her was even her relative. I congratulate Anita Among.”
Peace and Development: NRM’s Legacy
The President reminded the gathering that the NRM’s first and greatest achievement was bringing peace to Uganda — recalling his bush war days when he camped in the Teso area.
“Because of the correct ideology, we were able to end wars. Uganda has become an island of peace, hosting millions of refugees from neighbouring countries,” he said.
He emphasized that development was the NRM’s next pillar, citing major improvements in roads, electricity, and telecommunications, noting that nearly every sub-county in Bukedea now has access to power.
Expanding Water and Health Access
Museveni outlined ongoing government efforts to expand access to clean water through the Lake Kyoga Gravity Flow Scheme, which will serve Ngora, Kumi, Katakwi, Bukedea, and Kapelebyong districts.
“Eighty percent of Bukedea’s rural villages already have access to safe water. Our goal is 100 percent coverage,” he said.
On health, Museveni revealed that Bukedea District currently has two Health Centre IVs and nine Health Centre IIIs, with plans to upgrade and build additional health units in Komuge, Aligoi, Kwarikwar, and Koena.
Education and Skilling
The President reiterated his commitment to ensuring every parish has a government primary school and every sub-county has a secondary school. He announced the construction of new Seed Secondary Schools and rehabilitation of existing ones under the traditional schools programme.
He also renewed his campaign for free education, criticizing head teachers who continue to charge fees in government schools.
“Children are dropping out because of school fees. That’s why I started skilling hubs where they train for free and become productive within six months,” Museveni said.
Wealth Creation Over Infrastructure
Museveni reminded citizens that while development is essential, household wealth creation is the foundation of true transformation.
“Development is good, but wealth creation transforms a family. You don’t need tarmac roads to succeed,” he said, citing success stories from families who embraced government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.
He added that restocking would resume in Teso, Acholi, and Lango — with each household receiving five cows as compensation for livestock lost during past cattle rustling.
Jobs, Industry, and Integration
The President highlighted job creation as a natural outcome of wealth creation through commercial agriculture, manufacturing, and services. He also emphasized regional integration, noting that projects like the Tororo–Gulu–Pakwach railway will strengthen trade links and connect Teso to other parts of Uganda.
“When we create wealth, we create jobs. And when we unite as a region and as Africa, we become stronger and less dependent,” he said.
Leaders Pledge Support
Vice President H.E. Jessica Alupo thanked Museveni for prioritizing Teso and reaffirmed the region’s loyalty to the NRM.
Rt. Hon. Anita Among, the NRM Second National Vice Chairperson, praised the President for peace and development in Teso, pledging a “block vote” for him in 2026.
Mr. Epilo Isaac, NRM Chairperson for Bukedea District, assured the President of 99.99 percent support, citing the region’s progress under his leadership.
“We are grateful for the roads, schools, hospitals, and water systems built under your government. Bukedea stands firmly with you,” he said.
