President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed wife, Janet Museveni, who also doubles as the Education Minister to re-appoint with immediate effect, Professor Wasswa Balunywa as MUBS Principal.
For starters, Professor Wasswa Balunywa who has been at the realm of the Nakawa based Business School for the 21 years was pushed to the side lines following a council meeting were members evenly split between the side that supports him and that which opposed him.
The council decided to push him on the sidelines for the meantime, replacing him with his assistant, Professor Moses Muhwezi.
Now according to a letter dated 28th May, 2019 that has been accessed by Campus Bee, the President noted that Professor Balunywa has always been on the liberation side ideology with his institution free of strikes and therefore directing the Education Ministry to re-appoint him.
“I am writing to direct you to re-appoint Professor Wasswa Balunywa as the Principal of MUBS for another term on the expiry of this one. One of the obstacles that have wasted our time is a disoriented pro-imperialism academia” – Read the letter in part.
The president added that he has personally interacted with professor and has found him as ‘such a good person to work with.’
Prof Wasswa Balunywa’s contract expired this month and since then controversy around its renewal has been the topic of discussion around the gates of the Makerere University affiliated institution.
