“Fear God, Get education, Keep alive and healthy, Liberate yourself
economically plus your life,” president Yoweri Museveni told
University student leaders during their swearing in at Kyankwanzi on
Saturday.
He says that those are the four things you need to pay attention to
for a successful life.
“If you do those, you will have contributed enough to nation building
even if you don’t do anything else, which is highly welcome if
possible.”
However, the trip of the student leaders to Kyankwanzi at the time
when the NRM caucus is meeting at the same venue has been met
differently by the public.
A section of the public is still baffled why such a function had to be
taken to Kyankwanzi.
But the outgoing chairman of the Uganda National Students Association,
Abubakar Matanda says their trip was necessary.
“When we met the president on 27 January during the opening of the
National Students Council in Soroti, we requested him to attend our
swearing in. He accepted but told us if he can’t make it, we shall
have to go where he would be,” says Matanda.
“We accepted and he happened to be in Kyankwanzi during the swearing
in of our new leaders.”
He maintains that their function had nothing to do with the ongoing NRM caucus.
“We didn’t even see those in the retreat. A tent is mounted near the
presidents state lodge. Thats where we had our swearing.”
The past student leaders have been swearing in at their head office at
legacy house. The incoming UNSA chairman is Aber Lilian, the current
guild president of Makerere University.
