The academic registrar of Mbarara university of science and technology (MUST) Dr. Martha Kyoshaba has responded to the students’ worries about the change in their published marks on student portal.
The change in marks affected all the current students and graduands when their grades were altered to lower grades, leaving several students with retakes.
In order to calm the situation, Dr. Kyoshaba communicated to students that the system had experienced an error which resulted into change of students marks unexpectedly.
‘’I write to clarify the issue about grading in the AIMS. According to the regulations governing computation of CGPA sec.3.3.3b, raw marks shall be maintained at two decimal places. However, ZEENODE the service providers experienced a bug/challenge in processing marks into grade letter and grade point. Hence, the rounding off of the marks in the grading system. This challenge did not affect the actual mark, it affected the grades letter and grade point, thus the GPA of students with borderline marks,’’ the letter reads in part.
She encouraged students to continuously check the results in their portals and incase of any anomaly, they should report to her department through their faculty deans and their respective heads of department.
