Engineering students at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology ( MMUST) have been suspended indefinitely after they went on the rampage and destroyed property.
The students, who disrupted learning at the university on Tuesday were demonstrating against failure by the university to accredit their courses. It took the interventions of the ant-riot police to calm students.
In a circular from the university management, all the second year engineering students who reside in the university hostels were told to vacate the institution’s compound by 4pm, on the same day.
“Following your disruption of university activities on July 28, 2015, the university senate sitting on July 28, 2015 have decided that all second year engineering students and any other engineering student residing in university halls of residence will vacate university and proceed home by 4pm until further notice,” reads the circular seen by The Standard.
Engineering Students Association Chairperson Pattern Otieno said all engineering courses at MMUST have not been registered by the Engineering Board of Kenya, a fact that was refuted by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Fredric Otieno.
