Friday 11th March 2022 will mark one month since the newly elected guild leaders at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) were ushered into office.
However, the guild activities which were supposed to kickstart as earlier planned by different ministries are uncertain on whether they will operate as they were scheduled. This is attributed to the delayed release of Guild funds by the university administration to enable the guild run its activities normally.
In response to the Guild finance minister’s inquiry on when to release the guild funds, the university secretary Mr. Melchoir Byaruhanga revealed that the university does not have funds at the moment.
‘’This is to inform you that there are no finds at the moment. We hope to get the next release in the last of the year in April 2022. We regret the inconvenience this will cause,’’ he responded.
It should be remembered that all MUST students pay UGX 10,000 every academic year as guild fees. However, this money is not collected by the university but it instead goes directly to Uganda Revenue Authority. This is then released by the Ministry of finance to the university on a quarterly basis.
