Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) on Saturday 7th March, 2020 organized a female football Gala through the Guild Ministry of Gender which was to involve both teaching and non teaching staff for all the 6 faculties at the institution.
However due to the limited numbers of ladies that could play football, some faculties were dissolved in others. Faculty of Medicine was dissolved in the Faculty of Interdisciplinary, and the Faculty of Computing was disolved in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology.
The games kicked off at the university play ground at 3:30 pm with a game between the Faculty of Computing and the Faculty of Science. The final fell between the Faculty Of Business and the Faculty Science which was won 2-0 victory in favour of the latter, thereby taking the trophy and the honor of the superwomen.
Apart from football, the gala also included various health care services like free HIV testing and counseling, free family planning methods to the students and an interaction session between all parties.
The teams composed of both students and lecturers and among these students was the aspiring guild president of the same institution, Mariam Iculet Arikosi who played for the Faculty of Interdisciplinary studies.
While talking to Phionah Nuwahwera, the Guild Minister of Gender at the institution, she revealed that it being the first time for such an event to happen in the institution, it has been a little bit challenging but went on to thank all the people that made this a success.
The official women’s day celebrations at MUST will be held today, Monday 9th March 2020 at the main campus in Mbarara.
