News reaching the Hive indicates, students in Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) have legitimately boycotted using canteens that were put in place, saying they are out of their affordability.
According to the students, the canteens offer food at a price only the ‘working class’ can afford, which only puts lecturers and administrative personnel in advantage. Apparently, the canteens offer food at a minimum of Shs 4000.
The canteens have registered a very big decline in the customers received since the week started and a lot of food is going to waste since most of the students have resolved to outsource their meals from surrounding areas of Taso Village and Kashanyarazi where food is as low as Shs 2000.
Despite the university’s move to secure 3 service providers, the students have only been bitter towards the idea, tagging it an unfavorable deal since these providers do not offer services at student-friendly prices like their previously treasured canteens.
